The Justice Climate Fund (JCF) is a national, mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to mobilizing capital and resources to advance clean energy projects in under-resourced communities. By working with a network of community-based lenders serving over 113 million Americans across all 50 states, JCF drives investments that promote clean energy, clean air and water, improved public health, and economic resilience—creating well-paying jobs and ensuring a just and sustainable energy transition for all communities.


JCF is supported by an existing ecosystem of coalition members, including the African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs, National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders, National Bankers Community Alliance, Community Development Bankers Association, and Oweesta Corporation, along with technical assistance partners that will help community lenders deploy clean energy projects.


This is an exciting time for JCF, as we move forward with multiple waves of funding for projects across the country, from rural Appalachia to urban communities to the Southeast, Midwest and beyond. This newly created position will help JCF advance its mission, increase brand awareness and support, and position the organization as a leader in its field.


About the Position


JCF’s Director of Communications will help design, develop and execute communications and brand marketing strategies across the organization. Reporting to the Managing Director of Communications, the successful candidate will be an excellent writer and strategist, with experience crafting strong narratives and tailored messaging for diverse stakeholders on a national level. We are looking for a collaborative communications leader, experienced in developing digital strategies and data-driven messaging across multiple platforms, including social media channels, websites, blogs and webinars. Our new communications director will have experience in top-tier media strategy, including drafting and landing pitches, writing and placing op-eds, and come with existing media relationships. Experience working in a fast-paced environment with an understanding of, and passion for, equitable climate solutions is a plus.


Job Responsibilities


Strategic Communications

  • Assist in developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy to elevate and amplify JCF’s mission, impact, and thought leadership.
  • Craft clear, effective messaging tailored to key audiences, including policymakers, funders, community partners, internal team, media and the public.
  • Shape compelling narratives that showcase JCF’s work on the ground, focusing on environmental, social and economic impacts.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communications, aligning messaging with JCF’s mission and values.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner for the Managing Director of Communications, helping to drive innovation, communication campaigns, and brand development.
  • Oversee the creation of compelling storytelling content, including impact reports, blog content, and newsletters.
  • Assist in leading internal communications efforts to ensure alignment across teams and stakeholders.


Digital and Social Media Strategy

  • Develop and execute content to drive JCF’s digital strategy to exponentially expand JCF’s reach and engagement.
  • Manage and grow JCF’s social media presence with high-quality content and visuals that increase reach, engagement, and build support for JCF’s mission, vision and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of targeted paid and organic digital campaigns to drive awareness, engagement, and support.
  • Leverage data analytics and insights to refine digital strategy and optimize content performance.
  • Own website content, ensuring it is dynamic, engaging, and aligned with organizational goals.


Public Relations and Brand Management

  • Experience in driving crisis communications, including rapid response strategies Strengthen and maintain JCF’s brand identity, ensuring consistency across all channels and materials.
  • Assist in developing thought leadership opportunities, including op-eds, speaking engagements, and webinars.
  • Coordinate with diverse stakeholders and partners, ensuring JCF’s messaging is clear, consistent and in sync with organizational goals.


Earned Media

  • Execute proactive media strategies to secure high-impact coverage that allows JCF to both meet the moment and drive the conversation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets in important coverage areas, including climate, clean energy, and the clean energy economy.
  • Draft and distribute press materials, including press releases, media advisories, and op-eds.
  • Assist in preparing leadership and external spokespeople for media opportunities, including interviews and public speaking engagements.
  • Monitor media trends and coverage to identify opportunities for JCF to contribute to the national dialogue on equitable climate solutions, the clean energy economy, and the health benefits of cleaner air and water.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field
  • 10 years of experience in managing successful strategic communications programs, preferably with some national-level experience preferred
  • Excellent communicator and active listener, with the ability to work with a broad and diverse range of stakeholders
  • Must be deeply aligned with JCF’s mission, demonstrating a genuine passion for, and experience in, equitable climate solutions
  • Strong understanding of communications best practices and social media strategy
  • Must thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, as the organization is a new startup that is continuously evolving
  • Ability to understand communications KPIs and metrics and track measurable outcomes through creativity and data-driven decision-making
