JCF seeks a Managing Director of Communications responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies to advance JCF's mission, increase brand visibility, and position JCF as a leader in the field.

Remote · Full time $190,000 - $260,000 per year

Description

The Justice Climate Fund (JCF) is a purpose-built nonprofit designed to provide the capital and technical knowledge necessary for community lenders to successfully finance clean energy projects in low-income and disadvantaged communities across the country. JCF will capitalize its coalition members, including Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) banks, loan funds, and housing developers, to create a clean and just energy transition for their communities.


JCF is supported by an existing ecosystem of coalition members, including the African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs, National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders, National Bankers Community Alliance, Partners for the Common Good, and Oweesta Corporation, along with technical assistance partners that will help community lenders deploy clean energy projects. With its $940 million award, JCF will stand up a Community-Based Green Lender Certification Program that utilizes several application waves and capital reservations to ensure that community lenders receive funding only once they have been appropriately assessed, trained, and certified.


About the Position


To move JCF to its next level of success, JCF seeks a Managing Director of Communications responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies to advance JCF's mission, increase brand visibility, and position JCF as a leader in the field. Key audiences include JCF coalition members, government partners, investors, community partners, philanthropists, and foundations. Reporting to the Chief Engagement & Strategy Officer, the ideal candidate is a proven communications leader who will serve as the primary strategist, overseeing a dedicated team of communications professionals who focus on impact storytelling, media relations, content development, publications, web content management, internal communications, digital and social media, video production and more.


The Managing Director will partner across the organization to align strategies and support key organizational goals, including government relations, fundraising, research, and engagement.


Job Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy with short and long-term milestones that align with JCF's mission, goals, and growth objectives
  • Direct and manage communication partners (e.g., consultants, web vendors) to ensure strategic and coordinated support of JCF
  • Collaborate with the Chief Engagement & Strategy Officer, the senior leadership team, funders, and partners to shape the overall strategic direction of JCF
  • Ensure consistent, compelling, and integrated messaging across all channels, including partner communications, digital, and media platforms
  • Develop compelling impact narratives that showcase the benefits of JCF’s work on the ground, focusing on social, environmental, and economic impacts
  • Partner across teams to align communications efforts with organizational priorities and fundraising initiatives


Public Relations and Brand Management

  • Lead all public relations efforts to enhance JCF’s visibility and reputation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers
  • Develop and distribute press releases, media kits, and other communication materials
  • Ensure consistent and compelling messaging across all communication channels
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of JCF’s brand identity
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for thought leadership, including speaking engagements, editorial placements, and media appearances for key executives while centering JCF’s mission to advance climate equity and amplify stories of impact
  • Ensure communications strategy and materials reflect the diverse voices and stories of the communities served by JCF
  • Build communications partnerships to ensure broad public awareness of JCF’s initiatives and the benefits of clean energy solutions


Digital and Social Media Strategy

  • Develop and execute digital and social media strategies to engage with key audiences
  • Oversee the management of content for JCF’s website, social media platforms, and other digital channels
  • Monitor and analyze digital and social media metrics to optimize engagement and reach


Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing communications team
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages innovation and excellence
  • Provide regular feedback and professional development opportunities for team members.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Related advanced degree preferred
  • 10 years of experience in managing successful strategic communications programs
  • Must be deeply aligned with JCF’s mission, demonstrating a genuine passion for, and experience in, environmental justice and community lending
  • Must thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, as the organization is a new startup that is continuously evolving
  • Proven track record of leadership and strategic thinking, with experience driving significant growth
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading teams, with a focus on achieving organizational goals and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
  • Ability to deliver measurable outcomes through creativity and data-driven decision-making
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and passion for building and growing businesses
  • A collaborative, flexible leader who projects maturity, confidence, and credibility to external stakeholders, investors, and partners and brings exceptional skills as an active listener, community convener, consensus builder, and advisor
