Justice Climate Fund Awarded $2.5 Million Grant to Advance Clean Energy Projects in the South

ATLANTA, Ga. (March 5, 2026)—Justice Climate Fund (JCF) today announced it has received a $2.5 million grant to advance climate and clean energy projects in under-resourced communities across the South. The grant from Hive Fund for Climate and Gender Justice (Hive Fund) will help unlock shovel-ready projects that have been delayed or stalled due to federal rollbacks in clean energy funding and policies.

Working with its national network of more than 400 community lenders, green banks, and state and local partners, JCF leverages capital and partnerships to support projects that provide energy independence, deliver cleaner air and water, and strengthen local economies.

“We are grateful and honored to have the support of a mission-aligned partner like Hive Fund,” said Amir Kirkwood, JCF’s chief executive officer. “This grant will help us drive clean energy projects that lower energy bills for families and small businesses, create good-paying jobs, and build environmental and economic resilience in communities that have historically been left behind.”

JCF’s pipeline of projects in the South includes community solar installations at local schools and hospitals; solar-powered resilience hubs that provide reliable power during outages; energy-efficient upgrades that lower utility costs; and solar energy systems that help safeguard access to clean drinking water in extreme weather in communities across the region.

Hive Fund supports groups working to accelerate the clean energy transition in ways that center justice, redistribute power, and create healthier, safer, and more prosperous communities.

“We are proud to partner with Justice Climate Fund to expand access to affordable, community-led clean energy across the South,” said Melanie Allen, Hive Fund’s chief executive officer. “Communities across the region face rising energy costs alongside an outsized share of pollution and disinvestment. By working with trusted local partners, this collaboration helps advance locally driven solutions that deliver real relief and lasting impact.”
